We need to tear down and rebuild a small, 200 sq ft multi-use building on the land that is utilized for the forest preschool, events, and workshops. We are currently in the deconstruction phase.
Deconstruction involves dismantling the structure from the top down using hammers and drivers. Tools can be provided or you can bring your own.
The next deconsturction date is THIS Thursday, June 29 from 1-5 PM. Come anytime! The building is near the grassy field by the outdoor kitchen, yurt, and composting toilets.
Rebuilding dates TBD.

For the last several years, TLC Farm went into hibernation mode due to the pandemic, but this year, we're relaunching ways to reconnect with the land and community!
Are you ready to learn new skills? Spend more time in nature? Grow relationships with allies and mentors?
We are recruiting people like you to help build and expand old and new projects.
TLC Farm brings people together to root into relationships with each other and the land, by sharing tools for community-based sustainability and social change, and tending resilient ecosystems.
We offer a living, breathing organizational ecology in which to practice new modes of being and doing; trainings in practical skills and critical wisdoms; relationships with elders and youngers to help you grow into crews, collectives, and communities.
When you get involved with TLC…
You’re not simply a volunteer, but also a participant that is supporting a project, engaging with the land, and cultivating community.
You are helping to build a new world that you are an integral piece of.
We need people like you to make it all happen.
The sky's the limit!
There are opportunities big and small, depending on your desires and dreams.
We have many ways to plug in, whether you're looking for a short one-time commitment, offering ongoing support, or something in between.
We need participants to help with specific tasks, such as land tending, natural building, rebuilding physical infrastructure, invasive species removal, and native species plantings (just to name a few).
We also have ongoing roles available in areas of event hosting, outreach, rebuilding the education department, admin work, and more.
If you have specific skills you can offer, that's great! If you are not sure, no worries – you can still contribute. We welcome all walks of life and offer trainings and support for all volunteer participants.
Want to get involved? Attending a work party is the easiest way to get plugged in and learn more.
Work parties are group activities out at TLC Farm that usually focus on land work. Anyone can join! Don't worry about not having the skills to help – we will provide guidance and support for the tasks at hand.
Check the calendar for upcoming work party events and sign up on our email list to get updates for future events.
Our bigger participant picture involves gathering a group of people together with the intention to dive deeper into involvement at TLC.
The group will first attend a program that involves trainings in BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ relations, group skills of nonhierarchical organizing, and skill building. From there, we will form into teams that take on a project or role at the farm and practice our skills.
Contact the Engagement Coordinator if you're interested in joining the cohort.
How to Get Involved:
Attend a work party! Join the upcoming cohort! Come to an action meeting!
If you have any questions, contact Melissa, the engagement coordinator at engagement@tryonfarm.org
Come help rebuild TLC Farm's greehouse (and have fun together)! 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, May 13th.
Remember the 2021 ice storm? Our lovely large greenhouse collapsed under the weight of all that ice, and after a year of a half-way working greenhouse, no no greenhouse, we're finally building a new one and the more hands the merrier! On Saturday, April 1st, we started deconstructing the old greenhouse and prepare the site for our new greenhouse and now we're ready to set it up (we're getting a 10 x 16 pre-fabricated greenhouse kit). We'll provide snacks and tools, just bring yourself and your friends. Contact Sygil (sygilrose[at]gmail.com) for more information.
Engagement Coordinator Job Description
Priority deadline is February 15, 2023. Aspirational hire date is March 1.
Organizational Overview:
Tryon Life Community Farm brings people together to root into relationships with each other and the land, by sharing tools for community-based sustainability and social change, and tending resilient ecosystems. TLC Farm was founded almost 20 years ago, through a broad-based outpouring of volunteer love, commitment, and work to save the land from cookie-cutter development: saying No! to unbridled capitalist growth; and Yes! to becoming people more woven with the earth. Since then we have explored many forms of living into that possibility, with ups and downs aplenty. Currently, our main focus areas are:
TLC Farm programs and land tending are community created and run by volunteers.
Position Summary: The Engagement Coordinator’s primary focus will be to engage and support volunteers to run TLC Farm’s various programs, including field trips and workshops, event hosting and land tending. This will include outreach, training, coordination and providing practical support for volunteers, including significant renewal of programs and activities post-pandemic. This position is starting out at 10 hours/week, with the hope that as the programming grows we will have funds to offer more hours in the near future.
Oversight: TLC Farm has long been run by committed volunteers, and this position will be the only paid position in the organization (aside from the Willow Creek Forest School teachers). There is no executive director and organizational decisions are made by a volunteer council that represents the various working groups, thus there will not be hierarchical oversight. The Engagement Coordinator will have regular check-ins with a member of the council, and will work with the council to create a supportive accountability structure.
Location: TLC Farm is located in SW Portland, tucked into Tryon Creek State Park. The Engagement Coordinator will be able to do some work remotely, but we ask that they work at the TLC Farm office at least once a week. Because of this, living in the Portland area is a requirement for this position.
Compensation: This is a part-time position, starting at 10 hours a week, with an hourly wage of $28/hour.

Desired Qualifications:
TLC Farm is committed to being an inclusive and collaborative group that values bringing a diversity of approaches and perspectives to the work we do. We try to build a place where everyone is treated fairly, respected, and enjoys working together. Women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ people are especially welcome and encouraged to apply.
