Mushroom Cultivation Workshop: April 9

Workshop at TLC Farm
Mushroom Cultivation workshop: April 9, 10 am - noon and 1-3:30 pm.

Learn how to grow your own mushrooms with mycophile and amateur mushroom cultivator Mae Lamb!  The workshop will provide opportunities for beginners as well as those with some experience to learn and practice new skills for home-scale mushroom growing. The workshop will be broken into two parts and cover basic low tech cultivation method as well as more advanced skills such as producing your own grain spawn.  Participants may register for Part 1, Part 2 or for both.

Part 1 of the workshop will focus on growing common culinary and medicinal mushrooms like Oysters, Turkey Tails, and Garden Stropharia from grain spawn using low tech, DIY methods.  Participants will get hands on experience with cultivating fungi in buckets using straw and sawdust, as well as outdoor beds on woodchips.  Grain spawn will be available for purchase for participants to take home.

Part 2 will take things to the next level giving participants an opportunity to learn and practice generating their own grain spawn and liquid cultures.  Growing grain spawn can be intimidating, but this workshop will aim to demystify the process and empower participants with some basic knowledge to get started. Producing your own grain spawn opens up a world of possibilities allowing you to grow fungi in great abundance.  Growing grain spawn requires a little bit of gear and equipment. We'll orient to some minimalist approaches as well as some common set-ups for cultivating fungi on grain starting from liquid cultures.  Liquid cultures will be available for purchase for participants to take home.

Register here! Workshop fee is $30 for each part or $50 for both.

Cider Day! October 24, 1-3 pm

When:
Dec 18 2021 - 3:52pm
cider apples.jpg

Let's celebrate fall together!  In coordination with our land partner Cedar Moon's newly launched Community Supported Orchard, we're inviting you to come park in the new parking lot (wow! so many parking spaces), share apple cider and explore the orchard with us on Sunday, October 24, from 1-3 pm.

We will be pressing fresh apple cider from our late season apples, and Cedar Moon will be sampling out six varieties of hard cider included in their hard cider share.  There will also be an orchard tour and fresh apples to eat!

We're excited to be slowly re-opening the land to public events, and thrilled to have good on-site parking for you all!  All activities will be outside and we ask that all visitors are vaccinated for Covid-19 or wear masks. Detailed car & bike directions here.

The event is free and open to all!  We ask that you arrive between 1 and 1:30 and leave between 2:30 and 3, to minimize congestion in the driveway (which only is wide enouh for one car at a time). Contact brenna@tryonfarm.org or call 503-245-3847 with questions.
