Sep 27 2014 - 10:00am - 4:00pm
Tending the Self Through Transition

Nestled inside the sacred yurt surrounded by nature, we will dive deeply into bringing conscious awareness to the areas of our life that are moving through big changes. From this space, we will be working to release protective tendencies, while cultivating deep inner growth and an open, radiant heart, so that we can live our fullest expression of who we really are!

Workshop Activities:
-Exploration of the inner landscape within a guided writing session
-Self-liberation and empowerment using techniques to identify energetic strengths and weaknesses in the mind and body
-Trust-building activities to strengthen our connection to one another
-Bringing it all together through a grounding, self-aligning yoga practice

Apple Celebration, Oct. 12, 2-5 pm

When:
Oct 12 2014 - 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Apple cider making

Come Celebrate the Apple (and the land!)  with us at TLC Farm: Rain or shine!

It's time to love up that best of fruits, the apple, with a celebration all its own.
We'll be:

  • pressing apple cider with our cool DIY apple press (which includes a garbage disposal and a car jack),
  • sharing our favorite apple songs
  • having an apple pie bake-off (bring your best pie!  We'll have three categories for prizes: 1) traditional apple pie; 2) non-traditional apple pie (get cretive!); and 3) youth pie (baked by someone 13 or under))
  • making homemade ice cream with fresh goat milk, and
  • touring our three orchards (which include many heirloom apple varieties)

There will also be music and fun, friendly goats, the grand opening of the Back Perch of the yurt, and a general celebration of our broader community coming together.

You are welcome to give donations to TLC Farm at the event!  They are not required, but always appreciated.

As always, there is no on-site parking.  We'll be running a continuous shuttle from Riverdale Highschool (9727 S.W. Terwilliger Rd. Portland, 97219).  You can also bike or carpool!

(we heard its supposed to rain . . . we're prepared!)

Intro to Policy Level Activism, hosted by Recode, October 4-5

When:
Oct 4 2014 (All day) - Oct 5 2014 (All day)
Recode EcoSan Tour in Coquille

Intro to Policy Level Activism, hosted by Recode (a grass-roots group dedicated to legalizing sustianability, started by TLC Farm)
October 4th-5th in Portland, Oregon
Recode is offering a two day training on changing codes. This is a great chance to learn how Recode has been so effective at changing codes so quickly and apply these lessons to your own passions.

Interested? Let us know by filling out this quick form. Our director, Melora Golden, will contact you to discuss your participation. Share the event via facebook.
The training will cover:

  • Recode's approach and strategies for effectively changing codes.
  • Performance based codes (an introduction, their benefits and implications).
  • How to give presentations on performance based codes. Don't know what performance based codes are? That's okay! You will after the training!
  • Honing your facilitation skills: Difficult people, difficult questions and holding space for truth.
  • The Mechanics of Successful Community Organizing with Kari Koch of Rise Communications. It's more than just fliers and Facebook. Learn how to organize low stress, high impact events with up front strategizing, turn out mechanisms, and outreach planning for groups.

This training is specifically designed to increase the effectiveness of our current campaign to legalize all sustainable sanitation strategies in Oregon, but the techniques can be applied to a range of strategic code changes (bees, fruit trees, zoning).
We're asking that attendees commit to giving one or more presentations in their local communities about the benefits of performance based codes.  All training participants will receive mentorship to organize their community presentation. A Recode staff member will Skype in during the presentation to provide support.

Build a Site-built Composting Toilet, Sept. 17

When:
Sep 17 2014 - 10:00am - 1:00pm
toilet.post.vbc.big

Join a hands-on workshop to build a site-built scalable composting toilet, designed to meet Oregon's new REACH code (certed by Recode)!  We've been using one of these on the land, and will be doubling our capacity to receive nutrient-filled deposits from the public!

Our model features: sealed ventilation/aeration system that keeps composting aerobic; modular design that allows us to swap out as many 55-gallon drums as needed; sealed from contact with soil or animal vectors; and a urine diverter to minimize anaerobic saturation.

Please RSVP to bru...@tryonfarm.org. Also, this will likely be a multi-day workshop; we'll see how far we get on day 1.  If you'd like to join us, but can't make this day, let me know.
