Village Building Convergence at TLC Farm
May 31 & June 1 and June 6
We're happy to be participating in another great Village Building Convergence - our tenth one! The VBC is a 10-day "Urban Permaculture Extravaganza" organized by the City Repair Project, with natural building and community-focused projects happening all over the city.
On May 31 and June 1, we'll be re-painting our beloved Tea Whale and using earthen plaster to finish our new seven-sided building.
On June 6th we'll apply some permaculture design techniques to the garden, building an herb spiral and sheet mulching garden beds.
We will be hosting work days from 10am to 4pm on May 30-31 and June 6, and running a shuttle to the VBC main venue at the beginning and end of each work day (RSVP for the shuttle). Lunch, snacks and a delightful time will be provided! For more information, contact Jeffrey or call 503-245-3847.
VBC Evening Event: Sunday June 7
"Singing-Alive" Song Circle, Snackluck, and Sauna
June 7th, 6 - 10pm
We've done it! For the final night of the VBC, Tryon Life Community Farm invites you to come celebrate all of the amazing work we've all done. Please come join us for a "Singing-Alive" inspired evening where we will gather together at TLC Farm surrounded by beautiful forest and share space through the power of Song.
This is a time to share and learn new and old songs and be nourished by the beauty of voice, regardless of ones singing experience. We will have multiple singing circles at a time and YOU are welcome to help hold a circle if you feel inspired. There will be some snacks available, and we ask that if you are able to please bring more! Oh, and we will be firing up our wonderful earthen sauna for the occasion (note: the sauna is clothing optional).
What to Bring:
- you, your friends, and your beautiful voices
- any snacks you'd care to share
- a $10~$20 donation (no one turned away for lack of funds)
- a towel and water bottle for those who want to sing in the sauna
What not to bring:
- intoxicants
- dogs, unless they can be on leash at all times
There is NO onsite parking at TLC Farm, unless folks with special needs prearrange with us (send me an email if this is you). We will be running a shuttle from Riverdale High School - 9727 SW Terwilliger Blvd, Portland, OR 9721, which is about 1 mile away. Also consider carpooling to the high school, and feel free to use our rideshare board.
Yay the VBC is almost here! City-wide place-making and community building is about to commense. Invite your friends to choose TLC Farm as their site for Thursday May 29th-Saturday May 31st. There are going to be several awesome things happening at once on the land:
Thursday, May 29th - Sheet Mulching and Cob Sauna Love-Up
Friday, May 30th - Hepta-Hut Building and Cob Sauna Love-Up
Saturday, May 31st - Rainwater Sink Building and Cob Sauna Love-Up
There will be a shuttle to the farm on these days at 9am and 5pm. Check this page closer to the event for any changes to this information.
Join us every last Sunday of the month for a work party on the land. We will be in the garden, working on building projects, etc. Come, play, and bring a lunch!

Potluck Sunday Brunch in the Village Green!
Sunday, May 26th 11am-3pm
Click here to see the Facebook event page
Meet new friends and enjoy the loveliness of TLC Farm! We want to introduce you to our new giant 30 foot yurt and celebrate the evolving beauty of this land and community! So c'mon over on Sunday, May 26th anytime between 11am-3pm, and bring food to share, an instrument, games, friends, children, picnic blankets and a smile!
This is the first of hopefully many Sunday brunches in our Village Green. We will pass the hat to collect donations for the yurt purchase and improvements (we are raising 5k this spring/summer for the purchase, wood floor and radiant heating).
Transportation and parking is a friendly adventure... If you drive, please park at Riverdale High School (corner of SW Terwilliger and Boones Ferry) and we will shuttle you over! Or bike! Or park at the Tryon Creek State Park Nature Center on Terwilliger and hike 15 min through beautiful forest!
Please, no parking at the top of our driveway or the neighborhood! Contact Jenny [at] tryonfarm [dot] org or 503-548-8459 if other arrangements are needed.
From May 24 through June 2, people will be coming together all over Portland for the VBC to build community in many ways (see vbc.cityrepair.org for details). TLC Farm has long participated in the VBC, and this year we're happy to host one of the Decentralized Evening Events.
On Tuesday May 28, from 5:30-10pm, we're going to SING and PLAY, building community through fun and song. This will be a "Singing Alive" inspired evening, with multiple song circles--in the maple grove, around the bonfire, in our new yurt . . . Please bring your voice and spirit to share. We may also take walks in the twilight forest to visit the owls, and listen to the creek. We'll definitely be sharing yummy pizza from our cob oven - please bring toppings to share! Food and money donations will be happily accepted.
As always, parking is super limited, so please join the bike brigade leaving People's Food Co-op at 5 pm, or take the shuttle from the VBC Venue at Alberta Abbey (126 NE Alberta) running every hour, on the hour, starting at 5 pm.
