Join a TLC Farm Volunteer Team!

Kids in Greenhouse with Education Intern Alycia Bouyanan
We have multiple ongoing Volunteer Teams that need more volunteers!

The next general Volunteer Orientation is Saturday, April 27 from 4-6 pm (right before the Community Potluck, which you are welcome to stay for!)

TLC Farm Land Tending Team: responsible for the care of the grounds and physical structures on the land. This year, we'll be hosting work parties to remove invasive species, build a new structure in the Village Green, and maintain the gravel path that crosses the land. We have a few new projects we'd love to launch if we find volunteers! These include an Adopt a Plot program, starting a TLC garden plot, invasive/aggressive species inventory, and reaching out to local colleges to be included as a potential site for capstone/research projects.

If you want to join in the fun, come to our regular monthly Land Tending work party from 10 am-12 pm on the last Saturday of each month, then stay for our Land Tending Volunteer Team meeting from 12-1pm.

TLC Farm Outdoor Education Team:

Do you like working outdoors with kids? Are you passionate about teaching youth a range of sustainability topics including gardening, natural building, or restoration?

Join our Outdoor Education Volunteer Team! This team helps lead youth outdoor education tours and events at TLC Farm. Our program engages youth from preschool through college in an interactive farm tour and hands-on activities and lessons on specific sustainability themes such as gardening, permaculture, natural building, restoration, medicinal plants, forest ecology, and more.

Volunteer Educators help lead youth field trip activities at Tryon Life Community Farm using activities from TLC Farm's curriculum. Training will be provided. No experience is necessary, although previous experience working with youth is a huge bonus.

TLC Farm Workshop Team: helps plan and organize educational workshops at TLC Farm. Tasks include outreach and communication with workshop teachers, organizing and planning the logistics of the workshop and hosting the event.

TLC Farm Outreach Team: helps promote workshops, events, and the TLC Farm in general. Tasks include outreach, distributing fliers, posting on websites, tabling, fundraising, and more.

Tasks can be divided up among team members depending on your capacity, interests, and schedule. If you're interested in the Workshop or Outreach team, contact our Engagement Coordinator at engagement@tryonfarm.org

Land Tending Work Party THIS Saturday, July 22

In a time where the environment is rapidly shifting due to climate change, now more than ever, it's important to support our ecosystems. Biodiversity builds resilience. The more biodiversity there is, the more resilient an ecosystem. Invasive species take over and reduce the biodiversity of an ecosystem.

At TLC Farm, we are actively working to remove invasive species and replant native species to increase the biodiversity on the land. Please come help us in this project series! There will be many work parties with this focus, as invasive species are stubborn and aggressive, which requires our persistence to remove them.

No experience necessary. This work will require light to medium physical labor and tasks can be adjusted to fit your physical abilities. The projects will include path clearing and/or invasive species removal, depending on the day and current needs of the land.

Tools, gloves, and snacks will be provided, but if you have tools you like to use, please bring them! We will meet in the Village Green area by the outdoor kitchen, yurt, and composting toilets.

If you plan to come, please RSVP at engagement@tryonfarm.org

(If you like to live spur of the moment, you can come without an rsvp but it really helps us to get a headcount!)

Save the date for our next Land Tending work parties:

Wednesday, August 2 from 10 am-1 pm and

Saturday, August 12 from 3-6 pm.

Participate!

For the last several years, TLC Farm went into hibernation mode due to the pandemic, but this year, we're relaunching ways to reconnect with the land and community!

Are you ready to learn new skills? Spend more time in nature? Grow relationships with allies and mentors?

We are recruiting people like you to help build and expand old and new projects.

TLC Farm brings people together to root into relationships with each other and the land, by sharing tools for community-based sustainability and social change, and tending resilient ecosystems.

We offer a living, breathing organizational ecology in which to practice new modes of being and doing; trainings in practical skills and critical wisdoms; relationships with elders and youngers to help you grow into crews, collectives, and communities.

When you get involved with TLC…

You’re not simply a volunteer, but also a participant that is supporting a project, engaging with the land, and cultivating community.

You are helping to build a new world that you are an integral piece of.

We need people like you to make it all happen.

Ways to Get Involved

The sky's the limit!

There are opportunities big and small, depending on your desires and dreams.

We have many ways to plug in, whether you're looking for a short one-time commitment, offering ongoing support, or something in between.

We need participants to help with specific tasks, such as land tending, natural building, rebuilding physical infrastructure, invasive species removal, and native species plantings (just to name a few).

We also have ongoing roles available in areas of event hosting, outreach, rebuilding the education department, admin work, and more.

If you have specific skills you can offer, that's great! If you are not sure, no worries – you can still contribute. We welcome all walks of life and offer trainings and support for all volunteer participants.

Want to get involved? Attending a work party is the easiest way to get plugged in and learn more.

Work parties are group activities out at TLC Farm that usually focus on land work. Anyone can join! Don't worry about not having the skills to help – we will provide guidance and support for the tasks at hand.

Check the calendar for upcoming work party events and sign up on our email list to get updates for future events.

Upcoming Cohort

Our bigger participant picture involves gathering a group of people together with the intention to dive deeper into involvement at TLC.

The group will first attend a program that involves trainings in BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ relations, group skills of nonhierarchical organizing, and skill building. From there, we will form into teams that take on a project or role at the farm and practice our skills.

Contact the Engagement Coordinator if you're interested in joining the cohort.

How to Get Involved:
