When:
Nov 18 2023 - 1:00pm - 4:00pm
In a time where the environment is rapidly shifting due to climate change, now more than ever, it's important to support our ecosystems. Biodiversity builds resilience. The more biodiversity there is, the more resilient an ecosystem. Invasive species take over and reduce the biodiversity of an ecosystem.
At TLC Farm, we’re actively working to remove invasive species this fall so that we can replant native species in the spring to help support biodiversity. Please come help us in this project series! There will be several work parties with this focus, as invasive species are stubborn and aggressive, which requires our persistence to remove them.
In this fun, interactive event, you will learn how to identify wild plants and make baskets with them!
This event will include:
-
Orientation and brief land tour to identify invasive plant species
-
Invasive species removal
-
Basket weaving tutorial using Blackberry vines!
No experience necessary. This work will require medium physical labor and tasks can be adjusted to fit your physical abilities. Dress for the weather and plan to wear clothes to protect your skin. Tools and gloves will be provided, but if you have tools you like to use, please bring them! We may not have enough to go around. There are composting toilets, a hand washing sink, and drinking water on site.
We will meet in the Village Green area at 1 PM by the outdoor kitchen, yurt, and composting toilets. Parking is limited – so please carpool!
If you plan to come, please RSVP at engagement@tryonfarm.org
If you can't make it to this event, there will be another one held on Sunday, December 10 from 1-4 pm!
