Embodied Intimacy in Community

Registration is closed for this event

Many of us have an unspoken language with our most significant others, our lovers, partners, children but how often do we really get to mine the depth of non-verbal, body-based communication with our neighbors, our friends, our co-workers? How often do we really get to let loose and play? This workshop is about creating strongly embodied relationships in community. Through experiential movement, improvisation, dance, music, body work, conscious communication, play, and contemplative practice, we take a group dive below the thinking mind to experience ourselves as members of an embodied organism. This is a process of discovering directly that we are actually connected and communicating all the time energetically and physically. Skillfully accessing this body intelligence deepens our relationships and ability to live together with authenticity and joy. It helps us be better listeners, better neighbors, and better friends by encouraging deeper bonding and trust.

Elena Zubulake and Victor Warring are somatic (body based) intimacy, sexuality, and relationship educators. They enjoy bringing together movement, expression, primate play and empowerment. The vision that guides the way they teach is based in shifting learned models of relating in an isolation-driven/nuclear-family centered culture to a village oriented/affection sharing/community nexus driven culture. Their work begins with the body and is eros-inclusive, since the body is the first platform from which we learn to relate to other, and the body is inherently erotic and creative. This work addresses intimate, community, and ecological relationships, as well as our most basic relationship with self. Their combined background draws from Somatic Psychology, Body-Based Sexuality Education, Contact Improvisation, Bodywork, Permaculture, Indigenous Ritual, Anthropology, Theatre, and Contemplative Practice. They both graduated from Naropa University in Boulder Colorado, and they currently live and work in intentional community in Little Applegate, Oregon. They teach and offer one on one work together and separately.
